Cancer season

The Moon and the Crab represents Cancer Season which is from June, 21st to July 22nd. This beautiful water being “the crab” is ruled by the fourth house of home and family and the soulful moon (Richards, 2021).

If you have been feeling all the feelings lately, it could be due to the change of the weather, or the arrival of Cancer season! The crab has a shell that protects it from being harmed. Its squishy interior can be exposed but not for too long or it might become lost (Sills, 2023). It might travel into the depths of the ocean looking for its home. As it goes, this watery mush ball could be so lonely it gives up. Or it could get stronger and soon re-home in the lap of luxury.

The moon represents the stomach, breasts and synovial fluids. Cancer is the beginning of summer. It is a cardinal sign. If you think about the seasons and the zodiac as the stages of life, Cancer is the early teen (13-15 years old). For example, Aries is the newborn and beginning of spring/rebirth. Taurus is the toddler and so on (Richards, 2021).

I like this idea of going back in time and recultivating memories of my childhood and young adulthood. I enjoy remembering all the growing I have done. Even as I reflect back 6 months ago, I am so humbled by this growth. It makes me excited for the future. Whether that be in a few hours or a few years, it is all very exciting!

Cancer season reminds me of what it was like to be the 13 year old me!  Wishy-washy is the term I’m gonna use here. My friend Nicole had this as her email at one point and I think it's genius. I believe now that everyone may have seen me as extraordinary but I had a hard time ever believing it. Aren’t we all so extraordinary!? If you identify as a sun, moon or ascendent Cancer sign you might be able to relate!

In the words of Alice (one of my most favorite astrologers) Cancer signs are highly contradicted by nature. They want closeness but feel most intimate when far away. Loving quiet rainy sad days but then wondering why they feel so sad. Cancers also have an interesting quality I see in all water signs which is they underestimate themselves. People see Cancers as strong, which they are, but Cancers just want to be cared for.

When I was 13 I was invited to a birthday party. I wanted to be a part of it but something in my soul was saying ‘go cry in the basement.’ So that is what I did! I wanted to be alone in my sadness but I wanted someone to come find me too. It was a weird paradox that I still think about from time-to-time. The expectation to show up and be the life of the party was so overwhelming I went into my shell and felt my feelings instead.

The zodiac affects all of us. Each zodiac sign and celestial body = US. If you don’t believe in astrology that’s cool too. But consider walking around WITHOUT a clock, a compass, map, phone or a calendar to tell you when and where to be.

        How would you get around?

How would you know when it was time to get ready for winter? My answer =look up at the sky. I would look around and see what nature might be doing to give me a few hints.

The sky was a guide for people when they didn’t have what we do now. They were curious, and they discovered so much by listening to their intuition and following the stars.

I find Astrology fascinating because it is so diverse. I like that you can take what you want and leave the rest. It is entirely up to you how to interpret what you are seeing, feeling and hearing.

Tune into your soft watery self and know that you have the power to build your safe space or improve the one you already own. That delicate crab meat needs its protective shell and so do you!
